How to use Ambien?

The proper use of any medicine including Ambien eliminates the chance of overdose and limits the risk for side effects. The action of any medicine may be affected by certain reasons such as concomitant use with food or drinks, alcohol, other drugs.ambien
Ambien should be used in the dose prescribed to a patient by a medical professional. The drug should be taken as long as directed. The medicine should not be used longer than recommended. Ambien is indicated as a short-term treatment (no more than 4-5 weeks) for insomnia and sleep disorders.
Ambien is not used if a patient does not have enough rest or sleep before wake.
The tablet of Ambient is to be used as a whole without chewing or breaking it.
The symptoms of insomnia may return after the therapy with Ambien is stopped. Ask your doctor for other treatment methods.

Important information

Many patients  may have  allergic reaction, if use Ambien. You shouldn’t take   Ambien if have allergic reaction:  difficulty breathing;hives; swelling ( lips, face, throat, tongue). Some patients using Ambien have engaged in activity :  making phone calls, eating,driving,  but later they having no memory of the activity.

This drug may impair your  reactions or thinking. . Wait at least four hours or until you are fully awake before you   pilot an airplane,operate machinery,drive, or do anything that requires you to be  alert or awake. Do not take Ambien if you have consumed alcohol just before bed or during the day.

Keep Ambien  in a secure place for children and other people, the place where others cannot get to it.

Before taking

Some patients  using Ambien have engaged in activity such as making phone calls, eating, driving and later they having no memory of this activity. Consult with your health care provider about another medicine for your, if this problems with memmory happens to you, and don’t take  Ambien. Patients should not take Ambien if  they allergic to zolpidem.

Also consult with your provider or doctor, if you have the next problems :

• lung disease such as bronchitis,asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease,   emphysema;

• liver disease;

• a history of suicidal thoughts;

• sleep apnea;

• a history of depression;

• myasthenia gravis;

• kidney disease;

• a history of mental illness ; or

• a history of alcohol or drug  addiction.


What is Ambien (Zolpidem)?

Ambien is a sedative medication with hypnotic properties. Ambien is a prescription medication used to treat insomnia and other sleep disorders.

The medication is produced in a form of immediate-release and extended-release tablets. The immediate-release form of Ambien works rapidly, helping a patient to fall asleep. The extended-release form has a first layer that rapidly dissolves to help a person to fall asleep; the second layer of the tablet works slowly in the body, helping to stay asleep. The choice of the form of the medication is based on the condition of a patient.

Zolpidem is usually used for short-term period of treatment (from two to six weeks). The medication has been clinically tested and proven to be effective for sleep initiation problems.

Ambien is produced by Sanofi-Aventis U.S. LLC in the form of 5 and 10 mg film coated tablets.

Generic Zolpidem tablets 5 and 10 mg are manufactured by the following manufacturers which had received FDA approval: Mylan Pharmaceuticals Inc., TEVA Pharmaceuticals USA, Roxane Laboratories Inc., Watson Laboratories Inc., Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd., Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd., Apotex Inc., Synthon Pharmaceuticals Inc., Genpharm Inc., Mutual Pharmaceutical Company Inc., Caraco Pharmaceutical Laboratories Ltd., Carlsbad Technology Inc., and Lek Pharmaceuticals.

Ambien with other medicines

Report your doctor if you use other drugs with Ambien, because your doctor may recomend to you  a lower dose. Other drugs with  Ambien  may provoke sleepiness(for example  pain medication,muscle relaxants, cold medicine, and medicine for anxiety or depression). Report your health care professional if you take the next drugs:

• Thorazine (chlorpromazine);

• Sporanox (itraconazole), Nizoral (ketoconazole);

• Rimactane,Rifadin,Rifater (rifampin); or

• antidepressants such as  sertraline (Zoloft) or imipramine (Tofranil)

Less serious side effects

Also, Ambien may have less serious  side effects , such as:

• dizziness,daytime drowsiness,  weakness, feeling light-headed or “drugged”  ;

• loss of coordination, tired feeling ;

• throat irritation or dry nose, mouth ;

• constipation,nausea,upset stomach, diarrhea;

• sore throat, stuffy nose; or

• muscle pain, headache .

The serious side effects

This drug may cause a serious side effects and severe allergic reaction. Stop taking this drug if you have the next allergic symptoms:difficulty breathing; swelling of your lips, face,throat or tongue; hives . Report your health care about new symptoms, such as: anxiety,depression,  aggression,  confusion, agitation,unusual thoughts, memory problems, hallucinations, changes in personality, decreased inhibitions,  risk-taking behavior, no fear of danger, or thoughts of hurting yourself or suicide.

Don’t use this drug (Ambien)  if you have :

• feeling short of breath, irregular or fast  heartbeat, chest pain;

• feeling like you might pass out; or

• trouble swallowing or breathing.
